This article is general pet care information, not a substitute for an examination. Contact the practice for advice specific to your pet.
Before your appointment
Make a note of any changes in your pet’s appetite, thirst, activity, behaviour or toilet habits, and when you first noticed them.
If your pet takes medication, bring the details with you. Photographs or videos of a symptom that comes and goes can be very helpful. If you are registering a new pet, bring any vaccination or microchip records.
Helping your pet feel comfortable
Use a secure carrier for cats and small pets, and a suitable lead and harness for dogs. Familiar bedding or a favourite item may help some animals settle.
Tell the practice in advance if your pet is especially nervous, reactive, or difficult to handle. The team can advise on arrangements for the visit.
Longer journeys need a little more planning: from places such as Stokesley, Skelton and Billingham, allow time for a short break and a drink before the drive, and give your pet a chance to settle when you arrive. Travel information: Vets in Stokesley, Vets in Skelton and Vets in Billingham.
During your visit
Explain your main concerns first, then ask about the purpose of any recommended examinations, the treatment choices and the expected costs. Our vet consultations page explains what a typical appointment covers.
Before leaving, check you understand any medication instructions and when to contact the clinic again.
Booking
When you are ready, you can book a vet appointment online. If you are unsure what kind of appointment you need, call the practice.
